Chesterfield is set to receive £167,865 as part of a major new Government drive to help end rough sleeping and ensure that everyone who needs support has a route off the streets by Christmas.
The funding forms part of a £442 million national package that will provide emergency accommodation, longer-term housing and practical support for people experiencing rough sleeping.
The programme will support local areas to provide not only somewhere safe to stay, but also help with housing, health, substance abuse prevention programmes and other needs, giving people the stability they need to rebuild their lives.
Local MP, Toby Perkins, said “This £167,865 investment is welcome news for Chesterfield and aims to help people facing the trauma and insecurity of rough sleeping to get the support they need.
No one in our community should have to spend the night on the streets. This funding will help provide a route into safe accommodation, alongside the practical support people need to rebuild their lives and secure a more stable future.
Chesterfield has a strong tradition of communities, charities and public services working together. I welcome this investment and will continue to work with local partners to make sure we do everything we can to tackle rough sleeping and homelessness in our town.”
The announcement is part of a wider Government programme combining immediate action to get people off the streets this winter with longer-term investment in settled accommodation and intensive wraparound support.
Toby added, “This money will help provide pathways off the street for homeless people. This is not only vital to the wellbeing of these individuals, but helps reduce pressure on the NHS, police and other services.”
