Decisions being made by experts closer to our children in their communities wil not only improve the service but will actually make sure we use precious resources more wisely. My question to the Education Secretary regarding funding for SEN children.

Transcript

Toby Perkins: Thank you, Madam Deputy Speaker. I congratulate my Rt. Hon Friend on securing the extra funding but even with that there will never be enough money to go around. So, does she agree with me that getting decisions made by experts closer to our children in their communities is not only going improve service but will actually make sure we use those precious resources more wisely?

Secretary of State: Yes, absolutely, Madam Deputy Speaker and I agree with my Hon. Friend. I have heard time and again from parents that decisions are often made about children that haven’t actually been seen recently by the professional who is making those decisions. That’s why bringing more support closer to the child, within school and much closer to home will make a huge difference in terms of the quality of the provision as well as making sure it happens far more quickly.
