So, welcome to this week’s video, updating you on some of what’s been going on in Parliament and back in the constituency. Here’s what I have been up to since last time.
This week saw Holocaust Memorial Day. I added my name and message to the Holocaust Memorial Book, both at Chesterfield Town Hall and down in Parliament.
I also chaired the Industry and Parliament Trust dinner on how the industry can support a new green workforce within out environmental sector.
I met with colleagues at the Environmental Audit Committee to discuss the future programme for that important committee, that I chair in Parliament.
I spoke at the launch of the Office for Environmental Protection’s report on the Government’s progress on meeting their environmental goals and targets and I visited the Urgent Treatment Centre at Chesterfield Royal Hospital run by Derbyshire Health United to meet staff and patients and learn more about their plans for the future.
I raised the importance of reducing Business Rate bills for pubs with Treasury Minister in the urgent question in Parliament and I quizzed Ed Miliband about how he would ensure there was a heat pump workforce in place as part of his plans to reduce energy bills.
I met with Chesterfield student, Joshua Hole, an apprentice at Sheffield Forgemaster’s as part of a Parliamentary event to mark Nuclear Week and I met with Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s Chief Executive, Hal Spencer, to see if I can help the hospital move forward with their important plans to get solar panels across the whole of the hospital estate, saving as much as £700,000.
I was pleased to welcome the Chief Executive of the Environment Agency to Tapton Terrace to meet local residents and also see the challenges that face us on this flood hit street and I met with the Mayor of South Yorkshire, Oliver Coppard, to discuss the potential tram expansion, bringing the tram as far as Chesterfield and I went along to Cavendish Junior School, at Whittington Moor, to meet their School Council and hear about the important democracy work they’ve been doing in school.
Thanks so much for watching. See you next week.
