Staveley bypass has been talked about for as long as I can remember but it is more than just a road. It has the potential to unlock 1,500 new homes and 5,700 jobs.
I raised the bypass with the Prime Minister who confirmed that land investigation works are currently taking place, and it is a scheme that is being looked at closely by the Roads Minister.

Toby Perkins: Well, the Prime Minister can keep the good news going because he’s rightly made housebuilding and economic growth key priorities for his government. By giving the go ahead today to the Chesterfield Staveley Regeneration Route, he’ll help us deliver 1,500 houses and 5,700 jobs on land that was previously coal mining and brownfield industrial land. It’s not just a road, it is a growth project so, will the Prime Minister keep the good news coming and tell us that he’ll support the Chesterfield Staveley Regeneration Route?
Prime Minister: Can I thank him for that question, and I know that he’s working hard on this scheme. As he knows, land investigation works are currently taking place to help establish the final costs. The Road Minister is looking closely at the scheme, alongside about 40 others. We will prioritise schemes that deliver faster journeys and unlock new homes and jobs.
