Proud leaders at Poolsbrook Primary Academy have welcomed their local MP, Toby Perkins, to discuss the progress being made to education, behaviour and staff morale.
Toby Perkins said, “I was delighted to meet with members of the PTA and staff to hear about the vast improvements there have been at the school since the Flying High Partnership took over. From what I saw on my visit, and was told by staff and parents, the school’s behaviour, attendance and academic progress is all very positive.
I am also pleased to hear that roll numbers are at their highest in over a decade and their nursery places are all filled for next year. This means Poolsbrook Primary will remain a viable school. It is only small – with a maximum of just 120 pupils – but that is also part of its attraction. It is a small village school that is absolute central to the community here in Poolsbrook. I commend everyone involved at the school for the efforts and progress being made.”
Toby had a meeting and tour of the school with Deputy Head, Ben Chalkley, and got to meet with the teachers and children in each class as they learnt about history, solved puzzling maths puzzles and even got to hear the children recite a rhyme to help them remember how many days in each month!
Toby and Mr Chalkley also discussed the improvements at the academy, the challenges created by the SEND crisis in Derbyshire and the recent problems with flies in the village, which Toby is already pursuing with the Erin Landfill owners and Environment Agency.
